Microsoft announced today the future of Windows. The biggest news or should I say biggest surprise was the name. Everybody expected it to be called Windows 9. But no. It is called…wait for it…Windows 10! What a surprise! There are already tones of jokes around the product number choice (see few here).
Microsoft’s Windows chief Terry Myerson spent the first few minutes of his presentation to this critical question. His explanation is that “We know based on the product that is coming, and just how different our approach overall is, it wouldn’t be right to call it windows 9”.
Kind of saying. This is such a huge revolution of the OS marketplace that it is at least equivalent to two major releases.
Maybe they are true. We haven’t really seen the product yet so we don’t really know.
Microsoft did share few short demos. My first reaction was that Windows 10 is a hybrid between Windows 7 and Windows 8. Not a huge revolution. At best a good evolutionary step to bring back some sense to the poor souls that are still using traditional desktops or laptops.
